I am going to start this blog off by saying that everyday is a second chance. A second chance to turn off the tap while you are brushing your teeth, a second chance to recycle that plastic water bottle, and a second chance to help stop harming the environment and contributing to pollution. Together we can make change and help stop environmental issues from continuing! After reading several blogs about environmental issues, and how we can prevent them, I put together my top four ways that I feel are most important in order to make change to the environment and the world in our everyday lives below...
1. Recycle and Reuse:
Recycle and reuse whatever and whenever you can. This is the best measure to save the environment because it is a simple way to reduce the use of rubber and plastic. I would suggest buying a reusable water bottle rather than buying endless amounts of water bottles from the store. Even the practice of buying in bulk can help save a lot of packaging material, thus contributing to saving the environment.
2. Save Water:
Water is a very important natural resource. The water that comes out of our faucets every day is vital to our lives, yet we continue to unnecessarily waste it every single day. The simplest ways to save water are to turn off water taps after use. Use only as much water as necessary and I would suggest that you take a quick shower rather than a bath. Though a bath may be more relaxing, they waste more water compared to taking a quick shower. Also, do not ever dump garbage down a storm drain! Oh, and the next time you visit a beach, avoid spilling food or leaving waste behind your area. All in all, water is so precious, we cannot continue to waste or pollute it.
3. Walk or Bike:
My first suggestion is to walk to close-by destinations instead of using your car to get there every time. Do not be lazy! For instance, you can try riding a bicycle to get to school, work, or anywhere if possible instead. Cycling is faster than walking and will get you to your destination faster. Both walking and cycling are not only good for your health, but they are good for the environment as well. Just remember, each time you avoid using your car, you are contributing to reducing air pollution. You are saving fuel, saving money and getting a good workout too. Now isn't that beneficial for both you and the environment?
4. Create Awareness:
One way to help save the environment is to not only be aware of environmental issues, but to take action and create awareness. For instance, you can put up posters or banners in your school, neighbourhood, or your place of work to create awareness. You can even go the extra mile by organizing small activities such as a local cleanup, a tree planting, or volunteering for an organization which works towards creating environmental awareness. Though most of us may not feel like it is our responsibility to take care of our environment, the reality is that the environment's safety is in our hands. Little changes in our habits and way of thinking can go a long way in saving the environment. It is time to take the right steps to create environmental awareness and resort to simple means the few I provided in this blog, to save the environment. Be aware, take action, and make change!
